Despite being an expander, it also works very well as a standalone module. The module features a dedicated crossfading input, linear response, summed mix output, dedicated bipolar attenuators for incoming CV, and three color LEDs. Video:

These boxes are well made and elegant. I like the magnetic closure and the rear-filled design. The only thing is that you'll want to use some tissue dispenser springs underneath once the tissue is half gone so that the popup feed continues working. Putting springs in when fully loaded cannot be done because pulling out a tissue will rip them.
