I have a C10 and Ran the cable from the negative terminal into the cab to a 12-volt kill switch and then back out of the cab to a ground on the frame. This solenoid replaced a bad 350 Chev. Mercruiser starter Solenoid. It works perfectly with only a minor, simple modification of the mounting bracket .
